Covering Christchurch, Highcliffe, Burton, Bransgore, Hurn, Mudeford & Walkford
Local Eye Magazines is an independently owned business and published by local resident and businesswoman, Cheryl Dennett.
"I feel very passionate about the town’s great sense of community and wanted to do something positive for the local community in the area in which I live so December 2009 saw the launch of Christchurch Eye Magazine and more recently, the Highcliffe Eye magazine.
The purpose of Local Eye Magazines is to serve the community into which they are distributed and to support the local businesses that operate within or close to the community. Studies show that people like to "buy locally" whenever they can and now the readers of Christchurch Eye & Highcliffe Eye have a free reference guide to enable them to do just that.
Producing a magazine that is entertaining to read and is a useful source of information is both challenging and rewarding. Since its launch I have received overwhelming, positive feedback from both residents and businesses.
I firmly believe in providing high quality publications whilst trying to keep advertising costs as low as possible. I appreciate the need for local companies to have an affordable way to reach local people, which in turn will have a positive impact on the local economy.
Due to the rapid growth of the magazines over the last couple of years, I have recently been able to have join me; a fabulous and dedicated team covering editorial, distribution and admin.”
I have lived in Christchurch for over 20 years now, during this time I worked for several years with the local water company and had a family. I feel very lucky to live in Christchurch with our beautiful town and all its history, the countryside and seaside.
Christchurch was an inspiration to me when I started taking art classes at Christchurch Adult Learning Centre, which led me on to complete an ambition of mine in gaining an A’ level in art at Bournemouth Adult Learning in 2010. Therefore, working for Local Eye Magazines, based in Christchurch, will continue the positive experiences and involvement I have had with the community.
I admire Cheryl in the way she has built her business and created informative and lively community magazines. My hope is that I will be able to help Cheryl take the business from strength to strength!
I have lived in Christchurch my whole life and attended Twynham Secondary School and I am now in my last year at college. I have a passion for writing and would love to start a career in the journalism industry. Christchurch Eye has given me this boost, experience and confidence to do so.
I enjoy spending my summer down at Mudeford beach and have a part-time job working at WHSmith in the high street.
Recently, I have set up and launched my own online website selling jewellery and affordable gifts called The Beauty Closet (www.thebeautycloset.co.uk). This takes up most of my spare time and has taught me a lot about being a businesswoman.
I feel very honoured to be part of Local Eye Magazines and having the opportunity to write for the community every month.
Christchurch is unique, and I have no doubt that the town’s distinctive character has been created by its long and fascinating history. Change may be inevitable and necessary, but I believe that our local heritage is a valuable asset and an antidote to the ubiquitous and bland. I am sure that an awareness of the town’s history is enriching for established residents, newcomers, and visitors alike - so I am grateful to Cheryl for the opportunity to tell just a few of its countless stories in Christchurch Eye.
All our distributors are local people familiar with the area. They work hard to get the magazines delivered in good time to the people who matter – the people of Christchurch!
Because they work directly for us we know exactly when the magazine is getting delivered, where it’s being delivered to and who by.
